Herbert George Blumer (Saint Louis, 7 marzo 1900 – 13 aprile 1987) è stato un sociologo statunitense.I suoi principali interessi accademici furono incentrati attorno all'interazionismo simbolico ed ai metodi della ricerca sociale. Credendo che gli individui creino la propria realtà sociale attraverso l'azione individuale e collettiva, egli fu interprete e sostenitore delle opere di George Herbert Mead sull'interazionismo. Tema costante nel corso del suo lavoro fu l'argomentazione che la creazione della realtà sociale è un processo continuo. Grandemente considerato per la sua critica negativa delle ricerche sociali positivistiche, Blumer insisté che le ricerche sociologiche valide sono basate sull'osservazione naturalistica ed una osservazione partecipante in profondità.
