コンブ（昆布）は、不等毛植物門褐藻綱コンブ目コンブ科 （学名：Laminariaceae ）に属する数種の海藻の（一般的）名称である。生物学が生まれる以前からの名称であるため、厳密な定義はできないが、葉の長細い食用のものがコンブと呼ばれる傾向がある。コンブ科に属する海藻でも、オオウキモ（ジャイアントケルプ）は通常、コンブとは呼ばれない。 生物学ではカタカナ書きの「コンブ」が使われるが、単なる「コンブ」という種は存在せず、マコンブやリシリコンブ、ミツイシコンブなどのように、コンブ科植物の種の標準和名に用いる。他方、食品など日常的には昆布やこんぶ（こぶ）の表記も使われる。ウェブスター辞典などにもそのままkombuとして記載されている。
