Die Panikstörung (auch Paniksyndrom genannt) ist eine Form der Angststörung. Die Betroffenen leiden dabei unter plötzlichen Angstanfällen, ohne dass objektiv gesehen eine reale Gefahr besteht. Diese Angstanfälle treten in Form von Panikattacken auf, die eine extreme körperliche Angstreaktion („Bereitstellungreaktion“) aus scheinbar heiterem Himmel darstellen und von den Betroffenen als extreme Bedrohung ihrer Gesundheit erlebt werden.
