Paul Flory

Paul Flory was an American chemist, engineer, physicist, and autobiographer. He was born in Sterling in 1910 and died in Big Sur in 1985 from a myocardial infarction. Flory worked at Cornell University, Stanford University, DuPont, and the University of Cincinnati. He was educated at Ohio State University and spoke English.

His professional focus included physical chemistry and polymer science. He received the Guggenheim Fellowship, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, the Elliott Cresson Medal, and the Willard Gibbs Award. He was also nominated for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Flory was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. His work is recognized in the Nobel Laureates collection, the Nobel Chemistry collection, the American Academy Arts Sciences collection, and the National Medal Of Science collection.
