Peter Walter

Peter Walter is a male molecular biologist, biochemist, and biophysicist who works as a university teacher. He was born in Berlin in 1954 and holds citizenship in the United States and Germany. Walter speaks German and earned his Doctor of Philosophy from The Rockefeller University, where his doctoral advisor was Günter Blobel. He also studied at Freie Universität Berlin.

He is employed by the University of California, San Francisco. His professional affiliations include membership in the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, the National Academy of Sciences, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He has received several awards, including the Canada Gairdner International Award, the E. B. Wilson Medal, the Paul Ehrlich and Ludwig Darmstaedter Prize, and the Albert Lasker Award for Basic Medical Research.
