Thomas Wimmer was born in Austria in 1961 and studied the viola da gamba in Vienna, soon finding a particular interest in music of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, a field in which he specialised, playing instruments that include the Renaissance viol, the vihuela d'arco, Medieval fiddle and rebec.
