Hiraizumi – Temples, Gardens and Archaeological Sites Representing the Buddhist Pure Land

Among the component properties of the World Heritage site "Hiraizumi" are the National Treasure "Konjikido Hall of Chusonji Temple", the Special Place of Scenic Beauty "Motsuji Temple Garden", the Special Historic Site "Chusonji Temple Precincts", the Special Historic Site "Motsuji Temple Precincts with the Remains of the Chinju Shrine", and the Special Historic Site "Muryokoin Temple Site". In addition, efforts are being made to secure an extension to the World Heritage listing to include related properties such as the "Shirotoritate Castle Site", and the "Chojagahara Temple Site", components of the Historic Site "Yanagi no Gosho and the Hiraizumi Archaeological Sites", as well as the Historic Site "Takkoku no Iwaya Bishamondo Hall" and the Honederamura Shoen Archaeological Site, which is designated as an Important Cultural Property. To this end, the Agency for Cultural Affairs, the prefectural government, and the relevant municipalities are promoting a variety of initiatives.
