Grandider, 1899) * † P. maximus Standing, 1903 * † P. kelyus Gommery et al., 2009 Synonymes * Bradytherium * Neopropithecus Lamberton, 1936 Palaeopropithecus, le Paléopropithèque, est un genre éteint de grands lémuriens originaires de Madagascar et qui comprend trois espèces : P. ingens, P. maximus et P. kelyus. Avec les genres Mesopropithecus, Archaeoindris et Babakotia, il fait partie de la famille des Palaeopropithecidae. Les dernières datations au carbone 14 indiquent que ces lémuriens devaient encore être vivants il y a encore 1 500 ans. On pense que Palaeopropithecus ingens est mentionné dans les légendes malgaches comme le tretretretre ou tratratratra, un animal légendaire de la taille d'un veau et à visage humain.
