STS-1 foi a primeira missão de um ônibus espacial, lançada do Cabo Kennedy em 12 de abril de 1981 e retornada à Terra em 14 de abril. O objetivo principal da missão era o de testar a pioneira nave Columbia, sendo também o primeiro voo tripulado dos EUA desde a missão conjunta Apollo-Soyuz, realizada em 1975.
