In addition, viqualine displaces diazepam from the GABAA receptor and produces benzodiazepine-like effects, indicating that it is also a positive allosteric modulator of the benzodiazepine site of the GABAA receptor. The drug has mainly been researched as a potential treatment for alcoholism.
