Phosphate sind die Salze und Ester der Orthophosphorsäure (H3PO4). Im weiteren Sinn werden auch die Kondensate (Polymere) der Orthophosphorsäure und ihre Ester Phosphate genannt. Die Ester werden unter Phosphorsäureester beschrieben. Phosphor liegt bei allen diesen Verbindungen in der Oxidationsstufe vor.
