All European Member National Federations plus Israel shall be eligible to compete in the European Rowing Championships. An athlete must present a valid passport from the country for which he wishes to compete (as per FISA rules). British Rowing is the governing body for rowing. Rowing in Scotland and Wales is governed and organized nationally by Scottish Rowing and Welsh Rowing, but when representing Great Britain’s interest to the international rowing federation, FISA, British Rowing is the umbrella organization. Today, 55,000 people in the UK participate in rowing at least once a week. More than 300 British Rowing events and activities take place each year. There are over 520 British Rowing clubs in the UK catering for all ages and abilities at the same time as offering many different types of rowing. Strathclyde is an area of the Scottish city, Glasgow. Strathclyde, which means ‘Valley of the River Clyde’ was one of nine former local Government regions, located on the west coast and was the largest of all the regions. Built on Strathclyde Loch, the 2000m, 8 lane international class rowing lake was first built for the Commonwealth Games in 1986. The Scottish Rowing Centre has state of the art facilities both on and off the water, and has hosted a range of national and international competitions including the Scottish National Championships, the 1996 World Rowing Junior Championships and the 2005 World Rowing Masters Regatta.
