دابسون هو مضاد حيوي ينتمي إلى عائلة السولفوناميدات، مثبط تنافسي لحمض بارا أمينو بينزويك، يعمل هذا الدواء على تقليص إنتاج حمض الفوليك الضروري لنمو الجرثومة، وبالتالي خفض إنتاج حمض الفوليك مما يؤدي إلى موت الجرثومة.
