The drug was developed by AstraZeneca who sold the rights to Sanofi in 2015.

==Medical use== Vandetanib is indicated for the treatment of symptomatic or progressive medullary thyroid cancer in people with unresectable locally advanced or metastatic disease. Vandetanib is used to treat medullary thyroid cancer in adults who are ineligible for surgery.
