Een cisterne is een blaasje in het golgiapparaat, gevormd door stapeltjes van op elkaar liggende membraanvormige zakjes en is ofwel een lysosoom ofwel een excretieblaasje. Een lysosoom is een cisterne die iets binnen in de cel gericht en doelgericht gaat vernietigen. Een excretieblaasje gaat met inhoud naar een andere cel, door middel van exocytose.
